Walt Disney captivated fans at its D23 fan convention with an exciting showcase of upcoming films, including highly anticipated titles like “Moana 2,” “Incredibles 3,” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.” The three-hour event featured star-studded appearances, musical performances, and exclusive sneak peeks, highlighting Disney’s continued dominance in the entertainment industry.
The event kicked off with a lively performance by Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho, reprising their roles as Maui and Moana, respectively, in the upcoming sequel “Moana 2,” set to hit theaters on November 27. The crowd of 12,000 attendees was treated to traditional Hawaiian dancers, setting the tone for an evening filled with magical moments.
Disney CEO Bob Iger opened the showcase, expressing the company’s deep connection with its fans, stating, “Our bond with fans, forged over a century of storytelling, is stronger today than ever before.”
Among the highlights was the announcement of “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the next installment in James Cameron’s epic saga, with stars Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington presenting the first look at the film’s concept art. The event also revealed a series of upcoming releases on Disney+, including a slate of recorded live stage performances from popular Broadway hits like “Frozen” and “Aladdin,” with the “Frozen” musical set to premiere on the streaming platform in 2025.
Star Wars fans were treated to an early look at the new Disney+ series “Skeleton Crew,” a coming-of-age sci-fi adventure, and a teaser for the big-screen adaptation of “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” scheduled for release in 2026.
Marvel Studios reprised some of its biggest announcements from San Diego Comic-Con, including trailers for “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Fantastic Four,” and the Disney+ horror series “Agatha All Along,” based on “WandaVision.”
In addition, fans were thrilled by the return of “Percy Jackson” with a second season titled “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” and the live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic “Snow White,” featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
The evening’s biggest surprise came with the announcement of a sequel to the 2003 hit “Freaky Friday,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, which drew an enthusiastic response from the crowd.
The event closed with a powerful performance of “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King,” promoting the upcoming film “Mufasa: The Lion King,” which explores the early life of the iconic character Mufasa in a visually stunning, lifelike computer-generated film directed by Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins.
