Ajinomoto extends its Postgraduate Scholarship Grant to other esteemed universities in Japan for the 2019 school year. For the past eight years, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has been sending Filipino scholars to the University of Tokyo through the grant.

For school year 2019, however, the following top Japanese universities’ postgraduate programs are also within reach of the chosen applicant: Kyoto University, Nagoya University, Ochanomizu University, Waseda University, and Kagawa Nutrition University. Applications are open to deserving Filipino students who require financial assistance to pursue graduate studies in Japan.

The grantee is set to join five other students from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Russia, who will receive full financial scholarships. They can major in any field of science and technology. Each can choose to be enrolled in a one-year research program first before pursuing a two-year master’s program or be enrolled directly in the master’s program. Chosen students are also given monthly allowances, full coverage of Japanese language training, and airfare to Tokyo, Japan.

Since 2010, APC has sent 9 Filipinos to Japan. The most recent grantee, Anna Esperanza Legaspi, is set to begin her first term this April 2018 as a postgraduate international research student at Tokyo University’s Graduate School of Frontier Sciences. Prior to applying for the grant, Ms. Legaspi was a Chemistry instructor at the University of the Philippines – Los Baños from which she also graduated cum laude.

Legaspi joins 2013-2017 scholars Aizelle Yen Argete, Ma. Leah Borines, Bernice Mae Yu Jeco, Rogie Royce Carandang, and Jan Lane Buendia who are on track to finishing their master’s in Agricultural and Life Sciences, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering & Information Systems, Aquatic Bioscience, and Frontier Sciences, respectively.
